Which countries allow you to get a couple married in a religious ceremony as the synogogue or mosque or temple etc., without having to get married in a civil ceremony? for example in France you have to get married by the mayor before you can get married in a religious ceremony, but countries that don 't require one, specifically in Europe? thanks. thanks.

In USA the states vest power to the clergy to act on behalf of the state in marriage ceremonies.

In the US you do not need to be married civilly prior to your religious ceremony. The Pastor takes care of both and has been given that right by the State.
