Import taxes are very high here and items cost more then they would in most other countries for items like ipod or digital camera. Plus the fact that the warranty may not be valid when you return to your own country. If you from the USA by it in the States.

I have bought my last two digital cameras in Bangkok; a Fujipics a few years ago and a Nikon D60 last year. I bought both from stalls on the 3rd Floor of MBK in Bangkok. I have had no problems with either; both work fine and take great pictures – Thailand is such a beautiful country that it is easy to take lovely pictures. So, in terms of quality/that they were original products, I had no problems.
However, from a price perspective I think that Amazon in the UK or US would be cheaper; especaially if you find a camera that is on promotion – e.g. you can get a Nikon D40 package from amazon in the UK for about GBP225; that’s about Thai Baht11,000 or a Nikon D60 for about GBP325 (Thai Baht16,000). The warranty situation would also be better to have a from country in which you live.
Sorry, I don’t know about ipods, I followed the mobile phone route rather than the mp3 route for having portable music (recently acquired a Nokia N96).

Funny you should ask this. Eventhough Nikon digital camera is produced in Thailand, they cost more than buying it in Japan!
It used to be that the camera is cheapest in New York City, even cheaper than in Tokyo.
Check them out first.
Nikon made in Ayutthaya, then shipped for QC in Japan, and come back here in Thailand enjoying also tax rebates, still more expensive than buying it in Japan.

Visit Pantip Plaza in Bangkok, biggest electronic market of Thailand.
