What are the chances that Obama will pick Edwards to be his running mate in the general election?

Mr. Main Event asked:

…That is if Obama wins the Democratic Nomination.

I heard that there is a very slim chance that he’ll pick Edwards to be his running mate. What is that? And if not Edwards, then who do you think is in Obama’s line-up?
Sorry. I didn’t mean to say What is that? I meant to say WHY is that?.

Close to zero. Edwards says he doesn’t want to do it again. Been there done that.

    I like:

    Bill Richardson
    Jim Webb
    Wesley Clark
    Bill Nelson
    Mark Warner
    Sam Nunn

I think that would be the ideal situation. And Bill Richardson could be Secretary of State.

I don’t know, I don’t think its likely, because whereas John Edwards is pretty much anti-poverty, Barack Obama goes there as well as a ton of other issues.

John Edwards did have a considerable following, so it isn’t completely out of the question, I think Barack Obama would love to tap into John Edwards appeal (although I don’t know that he would need it, Barack Obama is pretty popular on his own).

I was thinking about who would complement Barack Obama best and I keep coming back to Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. She came into the reddest of red states, and won the governorship as a democrat, appealing to moderates. She was previously the state insurance commissioner, and since taking office, she used progressive change to get the state out of its massive operating deficit. I think she lines up to Barack well, not to mention she could get him much of the votes Hillary would.

Essentially I think he’ll pick somebody that he thinks he can work with, and I just don’t know that John Edwards is the best choice that is completely congruent with his message of change.

I think there is a good chance of it, but you would have to ask Obama since he would make that decision. (Jim Webb is a similar kind of choice that might appeal to him).

He has alot to choose from so who knows.

I do not think he will pick Hillary however…unless he was for some reason forced to put her on the ticket.
